Mexicanos en el extranjero / Mexicans living abroad

Published on March 4, 2011

(English)Dear friends, I had told these days make me thoughtful. This is the first of a series of comments. Sometimes I regret a little of having distance myself, when I lived in Catalonia, from my countrymen. May be thinking naively whether I left behind my past in Mexico and wanted to adapt and absorb or not into the new culture that was in front of me, maybe wasn't worthy to meet and miss my people and talk about the problems and scandals of our country. I am not questioning Catalan culture; for me that is my second home, of supportive people and with a mentality that complements ours, seriously. They are friends that love strongly their land and have a lot of things in common with us. My point is that now I have seen than Mexicans in Europe are people very interesting: ones are looking for the missing link of their roots, others are intellectuals being disappointed with the insecurity of our country who have emigrated, others just excelling themselves from humble origins but I see them and admire them so much, and others just want to travel over the world not only as observers but doing their own history here. These are not the other countrymen that immigrate, for instance, to USA for necessity and without preparation. Surely this approach changes by analyzing those who are in other parts of the world. One thing I am pretty sure: they are the citizens of the world that understand me better, give me better advises and those who turn out timeless when going out and reunions.
